Bandung (2)
This is one seriously late posting hehehe. The second part of our Bandung trip that was supposed to be posted last week, so sorry for the late posting. I just gotta get it out of the way.
After browsing through some cool Distros (small boutique shops selling things like shirts, jeans and accessories, the town is littered with them), we drove to the Paris Van Java (PVJ) mall at the Sukajadi area. Fortunately this time we managed to get a parking space, not like last time where i had to drive around for hours before i can find a decent parking space.
I've always liked Bandung, its probably the closest you can get to the same atmosphere as Melbourne. It's got that same creative and electric feel to it, not like Jakarta where its just business, business, business. You can relax and eat out at the many cafes and lounges on offer, not unlike Melbourne.
I think what also helps is the cooler climate compared to Jakarta. The town's higher altitude makes the weather cooler, so you can walk around in malls like PVJ much more comfortably than similar concept places like Cilandak Town Square (Citos).
Had japanese at Sushigroove, the food was okay, but the music was excellent! hehehe. The DJ was seriously impressive, and was playing better music than most clubs play in Jakarta. Strange that, Sushigroove is actually owned by the same group that owns Dragonfly and Blowfish clubs, how come the music there sucks? hmmmm.
The green tea ice cream was nice.
And thats the end of it. We came back refreshed and satisfied with bags of clothes and stuff to prove it, and our tummy full with yummy goodness.

Apple & Telkomsel?
Interesting rumour going around the web that could see one of my favorite design pioneer team up with a prominent local telecommunications operator (telco).
Apple's strategy in launching the iPhone has always been to partner up with a prominent telco in the region its entering, and giving it exclusive rights to distribute the phone bundled with a pricing plan. Apparently Apple is teaming up with Telkomsel for the Indonesian region. Interesting choice.
Telkomsel is one of the largest telco in Indonesia with around 30 million users, so that is definitely an attractive proposition for the iPhone.
Anways, Go and buy the new 3G iPhone here! its not actually out yet, but they can get one for you.
Chris Brown & Ciara
A video of Chris Breezy and Ciaraeezy (that didn't work out so well) performing their songs at the BET Music Award. I think CB is just an amazing artist with bags of talent, he could be a triple threat (music-movies-???) if he keeps up his work ethic, and he's only 19!

50 vs Buck
You've probably heard that Young Buck of 50 Cent's supergroup the G Unit was kicked out, well this is the taped conversation between both men where Buck confided about his financial problems and misscommunication between the two.
It breaks my heart to hear a grown man cry like this, talking about late payment on taxes and getting his stuff taken away.

Bandung (1)
We had an epic weekend which ended with a day trip to Bandung for a change of scenery. The traffic at Cipularang highway was surprisingly light, we arrived in record time i think, way before noon which i've never done.
Started out with a stop at Rumah Mode in Setiabudi, cause theres really nothing to do in Bandung except get good bargains and hang out!
Then we had lunch at Sambara, sundanese restaurant.
After more shopping and looking around, we had coffee and tea at the Holiday Inn, cause some of us needed to use the bathroom pretty badly hehehe.

Sex In The City Night
God Bless School Holidays
After a weekend that's more tiring than relaxing (though a lot of fun), I was prepared to slog through jakarta traffic as usual.
Can't believe it, I'm almost at the office, this is a minor miracle!
Apparently the annual school holidays is in effect, so it has considerably lessened traffic volume. Whatever it is god bless! I hate traffic.

Summer So Far (3) - Prepare For Awesomeness!
For the first time in a while, I actually saw an animated movie that can rival Pixar.
Thats a bold statement you say, but there i've said it, now go take a look at Kungfu Panda and see for yourself. Its an excellent and entertaining movie that will leave you exhilarated and your face tired of laughing (i actually had cramps on my face for smiling so much).
Panda didnt even make it into my Top 10 anticipated movie list, that was how low my expectation for this movie is. Jack Black usually make cringe, the thought of listening to him for an hour and half made me wanna go jump off the roof, but here he is actually suited to the material and bounce off Dustin Hoffman (as Master Shifu) so well.
The Furious Five were also amazing, though they didn't really get much screen time to shine, but the moments that they did like the bridge fight with the main baddie, Tai Lung. Their coordinated attack was well executed, catering to each of their main strenghts and weaknesses. The sight of Mantis regretting trying to hold on to the bridge was one of the funniest moment in the film for me hehehe.
Anda in Tai Lung...they have an enemy worthy of a kungfu film. When we first see him, he is shackled in an underground mountain prison guarded by a 1000 guards, all there for the purpose of guarding the most dangerous individual in the land.
I love how the filmmakers set the movie up, i was afraid its gonna be another pastiche of martial arts movies, but this is a straight up kungfu movie with breathtaking action and visuals. The peach tree sequences are my favorite, but surprisingly the humour in this thing is funny! this is coming from a guy who sat through all 3 Shrek movies and didnt utter a single laugh.
My highest recommendation for animated movie of the summer! lets see how Wall-E responds to this.
Real Life Davinci Code
An intriguing article in the New York Times titled "Mystery On Fifth Avenue", which profiles a house designed with designer Eric Clough to be filled with hidden contraptions and puzzles to be solved by its owner.
The space is designed to be "treasure hunt" with each clue leading to another, starting with a handmade book apparently left behind by the previous owner of the house.

Wouldnt you want to live in a house like this? hehehe
Check it out here for more pics of the puzzles.

Nokia E71i
The old one, E61i, was my phone before i traded it in for a Blackberry, and it still has my highest recomendation if you're looking for a good smart phone. The phone is damn near perfect if you ask me, and rivals the BB for functionality even, if the Symbian operating system they use is not so slow. Opening up applications and doing things can take forever, and i'm a very impatient man!
The design reminds me of the Motorola Q, right? the other weakness of this thing is its weight, its heavy in comparison to BBs. But its a good phone nonetheless.
Nokia has always been lagging behind in the smart phone department, their 9300 communicator range has been a hit and miss as well, but the E range to me has been amazing.
1 Million!
The Carter III officially sold 1 million copies according to chart reports by Nielsen Soundscan.
Weezy actually outsold Kanye's Graduation album (900,000 something sold), and is the first album to go platinum since 50 Cent's The Massacre in 2005.
He spoke to MTV about his success -
Wayne did have a special message for his fans, however: "What's poppin', MTV. It's Weezy F. Baby, and I just wanna thank everybody out there for making Tha Carter III the #1 album in the country. Thank you."
3 Out Of 3
Wow, would you believe it? 3 for 3.
The Dutch has been a team thats full of potential and promise, but have not won anything in 20 years.
They looked the goods in past Euro championships with the golden Ajax alumnis like Seedorf, Kluivert, Davids and co leading the charge, but as usual, they promised so much but delivered so little.
The last World Cup looked promising. Marco Van Basten instilled quiet discipline among the players, his way or the highway, and ego is certainly one of the their Achilles heel and have been one of their main reasons for imploding in the past. Seedorf's withdrawal from the squad after a disagreement with Van Basten is evidence that the old players think they should be able to walk into the team, and its good that he has eradicated that kind of unhealthy ego.
Last week the newspapers made a huge deal about the fact that the team had dinner together, thats right, all of them. Thats how much ego has wracked the Dutch teams of the past, that this show of unity has been made such a big deal.
If you look at the team sheet its full of unrecognized names, like who the hell are these people??? but thats Van Basten's strength, he picks people based on their talents and not their reputation.
he has also implemented free flowing attacking football, not surprising since he himself was once one of the greatest striker in the world. You never know...it could be their year...though Portugal and Spain will provide stern test if they ever meet in later matches, both teams are also firing on all cylinders with attacking impetus from forwards like Ronaldo and David Villa.
This Euro championship is the year of the dark horses, mark my word.

Why Every Guy Should Get His Girlfriend A Wii Fit
Some people are saying its actually a viral marketing concocted by Nintendo, could be, but its a pretty clever and subtle work if you think about it. This thing is making a huge phenomenon in the internet, this video alone has been viewed 3 million plus times on Youtube. If you do a quick search you would come across lots of videos like this, some with snowboarding-boxing-etc.

Funny spoof of the Hulk from Jimmy Kimmel, which actually has Edward Norton in it!
Blackberry Kickstart
Pics of the new Blackberry flip phone called Kickstart is out on the net, and it looks pretty nice. I'm not really into flip phones, though i understand its extremely popular in the US, but in Indonesia it has taken off since the Motorola Startac (remember that? hehehe that was a fad in itself).

Excellent Comebacks
Working in the communications/media business really screws with your perception. No kidding.
You can no longer enjoy movies/music/books at entertainment value anymore, you automatically analyze and pick them apart to see the mechanism underneath.
Movies for instance, when I watch them I find myself critiquing bad dialogue and ligthing, story turns that don't make sense, crappy special effects, etc.
I saw the Hulk last night, and couldn't help but feel that the movie was edited down due to missing character beats, probably trying to get a decent running time as it was approaching the 2 hour mark (see??? I'm complaining about the length of the movie).
But what I do love is a good comeback. Its gotta be short, sharp and sweet. No wasted breath and perfect timing.
You don't get these often, but when you do its worth quoting over and over again.
Whenever someone says something cool in return, we always say "touche!" Hehehe
I saw Friends the other day, the episode where Rachel hires a handsome but not so bright assistant. He was flirting with Phoebe a little bit and goes something like this:
Tag - "Phoebe, that's a beautifull name"
Phoebe - "you think that's good? You should hear my phone number"
Touche!

At The Drop Of A Hat
Funny how things can change at the drop of a hat isn't it?
One minute it can rain like cats and dogs, then the sun shines like mad.
You could have money burning a hole in your pocket, then gone the next.
You could be laughing your ass off and cry the next.

Punisher War Zone
With so many movies coming out, i forgot that the Punisher Warzone is coming out soon as well. Punisher actually had its own movie come out a couple of years ago, starring Thomas Jane and John Travolta, but it wasn't very good and quickly died then went to DVDs. Now they're rebooting it a'la The Incredible Hulk.
This looks more like the Punisher that we've come to know of, a scary Frank Castle who is thirsty for revenge. He's arguably the darkest "hero" in the Marvel universe, if you don't count Wolverine, but then again Frank is always more realistic with his guns and mob killing spree. Should be a fun little movie.
Street Figther Kick
This is the first part of what I like to call the "Trilogy of Child Endangerment" hehehe.
Summer So Far (2) - Welcome Home Mr Stark
First of all just let me say that I'm loving blogging from my Blackberry, it strips everything down to just text, making me focus on the content of the piece instead of how it looks. Quite refreshing sometimes, and I can still edit it when I reach my comp, but the important thing is I've put my thoughts into writting.
You have no idea how late this review of Iron Man is, by this time I don't think its in theaters any more hehehe. Never mind, gotta say my piece.
I breathed a sigh of relief after watching the movie.
One, I knew it was a big gamble for Marvel, much has been written about their $500 million credit facility from Merrill Lynch that will b used to fund their films. The stakes are high and they need a hit. Badly.
Well, 500 million something at the box office ain't too bad hehehe
But secondly, I'm relieved to see that they hit a homerun with the movie itself. To b honest, I had lots of doubt the moment I heard they plan to make a movie of Iron Man.
Unproven director, 2nd string character, new franchise, etc. I didn't want to see another Ghost Rider or Daredevil or Elektra, I love these characters to bits when I was little and I stayed fond of them.
this is less a review but more of a love letter to my childhood, and I didn't want them to screw it up like Lucas screwed up Star Wars.
Thank you Marvel and John Favreau for not buckling under the pressure of fan expectations and studio politics, I know many people probably want to see u fail, but u made the first genuine hit of the summer that in my eyes, hasn't been beaten yet (not even by Indy).
With Favreau and Robert Downey u guys have hit lightning in a bottle, both perfect for the material and surpassed my expectations. Keep 'em, give them anything they want, cause u will be rewarded with a a franchise that will keep on giving and giving.
Go see it if you're still undecided, buy the dvds and toys.
I'm out.

"How's it going man?"
"Good. Could b better, you?"
"Ok lah, keeping busy. How's married life?"
"Overrated"
(Silence)
"Good talkin to ya man"
"U too, later bro"

Indiana Jones & The City Of The Gods
-UPDATE- MTVNews reviews the script here, and says that its soooo much better than the final movie. I agree with them.
The internet is buzzing after an alternate script for the 4th Indiana Jones movie got leaked to the web, entitled Indiana Jones and the City of the Gods written by Frank Darabont (The Mist, Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile).
Much has been said about the long 15 year journey for the 4th one to get made, which resulted in something like 4 different scripts by different writers which didn't pan out at all. On the insistence of George Lucas, all of the scripts focused on the alien crystal skull and had different characters that ended up with what we have in Crystal Skulls.
Check it out here to download and read it for yourself, here's another link in case that one has allready got shut down.
I'm gonna read it tonight to see if its actually any better than we ended up with. I'll be writing a deeper review of Crystal Skulls soon, cause i wanted to unload my feelings about it.
Today
Huhuhu I'm in a good mood today, so don't nobody mess with me! Wanna hold on to it as long as possible

Spoiler For The Hulk
Tony Stark's appearance in the new Hulk movie has been posted on Youtube, which puzzles me.
Check out Tony Stark's appearance in The Incredible Hulk here!
That's pretty cool huh? and again, its underlines how Marvel wants their heroes to coexist in a shared universe and ultimately interact with each other. First the Captain America shield in Iron Man, and Nick Fury at the ending of that movie (see my Movies posts). Now Tony is returning the favor and appears to be helping out with a big green problem.
But this actually raised a flag for me.
You see, buzz on the Hulk has been a bit negative lately due to rumors that the filmmakers and Marvel are clashing over the tone and direction of the film. Apparently Ed Norton has been very vocal as well, so there's a lot of bad buzz going on, unlike the run up to the release of Iron Man.
This trailer might be a smart marketing move in linking the positive buzz of Iron Man with Hulk, or an attempt by Marvel to diffuse said negativity by countering with positivity (does that make any sense???).
Who knows, i'll watch the movie to find out though.

Carter III Album Review
There's a long ass review of The Carter III by the Village Voice if anyone is interested in seeing if Lil Wayne delivered the goods with his new album. The article examines each song one-by-one in detail, though it gives the album a mixed review. But then again, what's perfect? no such thing.
Some Blackberry News
Y'all know i love my Blackberry (BB), so here's some BB new i came across in the internet through my Google Reader (which is amazing btw, collects every news/blogs i want in one place, so sign up for it now!).
There's a pink BB 8300 Curve on the market now, gonna be a big hit with the ladies this one, i can already hear my sister jumping up and down.
Woo hooo! research firm IDC has stated that BB phones are the number one seller in the smart phone market in America, owning around 44% of the market share with the iPhone coming in at around 19%.
The problem with the iPhone is its locked in with only one carrier, AT&T, whilst the BBs are free to roam where the pastures are green hehehe. that is seriously limiting the reach for Apple, and creating a huge black market for the phone (apparently in China theres like 500,000 iPhones unlocked and sold, definitely not authorized).
BBs also made huge steps to appeal outside of its core demographics, which is the corporate users, and you can see that in the Pearl and the new Bold. But Apple is breaking grounds and signing agreements in new territories fast, so this is gonna be an interesting match up to say the least.
Oh, and third place goes to Palm btw, if anyone cares.
Theres a rumor that BB will come out with a touch screen phone to rival Apple's...hmmmm....don't know how i would respond to that...read the article for more details.

HP Event
Went to the Hewlett Packard launch for their brand new mobile laptop last Friday, its really small and cool looking with an aluminum finish. The best thing about it is it only cost Rp 6 million (US$600is), and its got a 120GB hard drive. I don't know if it has an Intel Core2Duo processor, but i don't think the selling point of the laptop is its technical proficiency, but its mobility.
They had a fashion show for some reason, maybe they're targeting the fashion conscious with its sleek design. Gotta love my Blackberry, i can take pics on the fly with excellent quality, and once i sign up and internet account i can update on the fly too!
The brand's spokesperson is Christian Sugiono, otherwise know as "Mr. Kamal" hehehe. And for some reason Cinta Laura was there and was given an award for Best Achievement for teens...yeah, i know...that just did not make sense...though she did make a lot of photographers take pics of her with the laptop, so it evens out i guess.
Maliq N'Dessentials were there to close out the show with a performance. Angga's hair is weird man hehehe its like a faux samurai/mullet...thing.

This Is Getting Ridiculous
The Kardashian machine is just going into overdrive right now. Besides their reality show on the E channel, the girls are running around trying to secure as many movies and endorsement deals as possible. Now they're auctioning a lunch with the sisters, with some of the proceeds to be donated to their favorite charity.

Thats just crazy, and somebody actually bid $8,100 for it!. Hey girls, if you really wanted to donate to charity, why not give all of it?? I've been reading so much coverage online about Kim K, now people are even discussing if her butt is real, get a life people.
check out the bid at Ebay here.
The Anti Energy Drink
Weird, i've never heard of an anti energy drink before, what would be the point of that? hehehe. Well apparently it helps you relax and sleep, but doesn't tea serve the same purpose? anyway, it's made of a combination of Rose Hips, Melatonin and Valerian Root with a great tasting beverage ."From design to production, every aspect of this calming drink was inspired by today’s popular hip hop artists who embrace the much sought-after hip hop lifestyle that encourages people to capture a stress-free state of mind"
Obama Won The Democratic Nomination
Damn Hilary, you just wasted all our time and money with that bull****, we could have told you he was gonna win hehehe. Finally, that's all i could say.
But i'm gonna say more.
Obama got the required 2,156 delegates to qualify as the Democratic nominee, leaving Hilary with 1,923 delegates and becoming the first black presidential nominee in the history of America. Either way, a Hilary win would have also recorded history being the first woman nominee, but either way the US wins cause they're both strong candidates. Obama acknowledge the historical weight of both their campaigns through his speech, something that Hilary did not have the class to do, yet:
"She has made history, not just because she's a woman who has done what no woman has done before, but because she is a leader who inspires millions of Americans with her strength, her courage and her commitment to the causes that brought us here tonight ... I congratulate her on the race she has run throughout this contest." - Obama
Apparently Hilary is interested in the Vice Presidential slot, but will Obama do that? the comments they made to each other during the campaign has been very catty, it's gonna take some doing if they want to get along.Plus i think it's gonna be a power struggle between those two if they win the presidential race, she's pretty vocal and headstrong, don't know if she wants to take a back seat and let him drive.
But then again, she could help with the Hispanic and women voters that has been out of reach for him so far. I always wanted an Obama/John Edwards ticket, but an Obama/Clinton ticket would probably demolish all competition (i'm lookin' at you McCain).
What's important though, is that whatever differences they have has to be patched up, unify the party and go from strength to strength. Make no mistake guys, this is going to be a turning point in history, mark my words.
Good times for the world is coming.

More New Chucks
I just love Converse Chuck Taylors, i think they're damn near perfect as shoes because of its minimal design and features. It doesn't have fancy cushioning, lace design or anything like that, just straight rubber and canvas. Thats the great thing about Chucks, you can customize it to your hearts desire, i've seen high school kids write or colour their Chucks to make it their own, its a world of possibilities.
Love the camo version.

New Murakami Exhibition
Takashi Murakami held an exhibition of new paintings called Davey Jones Tear at the Blum & Poe art gallery in LA.

"In a sensational display of new paintings, Takashi Murakami presents three distinct series—Daruma portraits, Korin landscapes, and abstractions—each signaling a playful turn toward the optical and gestural. Each image is built up from an innumerable mosaic of digital fragments that result in a visual unity that complicates the boundary between visceral and virtual realms of perception.
This technical strategy is part of the artist’s larger interest in the power of fantasy and deception rooted in special effects technologies developed by Industrial Light and Magic in George Lucas films and in integrating this genre into his own practice"
New N.E.R.D. Album Cover

Here's the cover for N.E.R.D's new album Seeing Sounds, they also released their new single "Everybody Nose", though i haven't heard of it yet so i can't comment on how good it is. I liked the first album, but the second one was so-so. I have high hopes for this one, you can never count out The Neptunes, they're one of the best producers and artists out there.

Ninja 250
Kawasaki recently launched their Ninja 250cc bike in Indonesia, retail price of around Rp 44 million if i'm not wrong. Cool bike. I wanna get one at some point down the line, but probably in metallic gray or black, not so much into the racing greens and reds.
I got a Pulsar 180cc that i hardly ever use at the moment, i've been getting a lot of flack about that from lots of people hehehe. But it's my first step in learning how to ride a bike, which i've always wanted to do. I think i've pretty much mastered cars, but bikes have always been a distant object to me, something i've never looked upon seriously until last year.
I've always liked driving fast in cars, but its nothing compared to riding fast on a motorbike. The straight visceral thrill and adrenaline you get when you zip by, and maybe almost loose control hehehe is just...amazing. I heard its a good bike for beginners, so i might get the Ninja and be on my way.
Wall-E
Saw this cute Wall-E promotional stand at Blitz Megaplex last night, definitely not the conventional promo material like posters. Got high hopes for this movie, gonna be interesting to see how Pixar carries a movie with a non talking main character.
Check out Blitz Megaplex people! best cinema i've ever been to.

Nas' Album Cover
Nas is a visionary, and there's not many left in the world still pushing envelopes and artistic limits. He did it with his last album Hip Hop Is Dead (remember that? everyone from Jay Z to 50 Cent had to speak their mind about that), now he's gonna do it again.
He's courting controversy again with his album content, which is said to address the issue of racism. His thinking is that ist he N word is used by everyone it becomes the norm, and people wouldn't be so offended by it anymore.
"I ain't Farrakhan or Chuck D," he said about the message on his new album. "I'm just a Queensbridge n---a that got rich. ... I love pissing people off and stirring up stupid mutha----as." - Nas
Trailer For The Happening
ay yay yay...this is intense stuff...warning: not for kids, seriously.
I thought this M. Night Shyamalan (Signs, The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable) movie is gonna be another alien invasion flick, boy, was i wrong. My interest in the movie just shot up, i gotta watch this movie cause damn that was intense.

Flashing Lights Part 3
By now some of you have probably seen the controversial "Flashing Lights" video from Kanye West, which i think is brilliant by the way, reminds of the ending of The Sopranos. It's arguably my favorite off his recent album, though the "Good Life" is pretty close (see the sub-heading for the blog?).
Well apparently there's a story behind that Spike Jonze (Being John Malkovich, Adaptation) video.
Kanye was wrestling with a couple of ideas for the video for the song, and drafted a couple of versions with other directors for it. Even though he filmed the other versions, he decided to go with the one that he's most satisfied with, which is the one that we've seen today (above).
Now someone has leaked the other versions to the web, which apparently irritated Kanye being the perfectionist that he is. This is the 1st version of the song that he made, its got a weird haunted house feel to it, I don't get it.
This is the 2nd version of the video to Flashing Lights. It kinda cool, a collage of still picture that is put together like a movie. It showcases an actress that is corrupted by fame. All in all, i still prefer the final video, it's got more meaning and pathos to it.
