I was struck by a serious throat infection last week and had to take bed rest for 5 days, so I really didn't have the best of weekend with DVDs and TV my only source of entertainment. The cable was running an American Idol marathon and since I really didn't have anything better to do, I watched almost all of it back to back and was surprised by the arc of the show if you watch it in one go.
I was rooting for Adam Lambert before just based on his "Tracks Of My Tears" performance, which is still probably the best performance of the season, but I based that on one show and didn't really watch any other episodes before or after. All I know was that performance dropped my jaw and he had my support, plus he's one of a kind, very daring song choices and interpretation.
Compared to Adam, Kris Allen is just boring. But I get it now, and I'll probably will be cheering for Kris come final elimination.
I always liked the underdogs, and Kris is about as bellow the radar as they come. Ok, his voice is not the best in the competition (I'll give that to Danny Gokey), and he's also not very consistent but Kris has his own charm and is very likeable. Adam is very theatrical while Kris is laid back and looks more comfortable playing the guitar than singing solo.
When the Disco week episode came on and I heard he was doing Donna Summer's "She Works Hard For The Money" I nearly laughed my ass off hahaha, but take a look and you'll see a different and original take that actually made Simon applaud him.
Here he is singing Kanye West's "Heartless", I didn't think it was the best thing ever like some of the judges did, but it was good nonetheless.
