Soho At Night

Went to a new lounge opening a week ago at Plaza Indonesia, called Immigrant, very industrial design and it was allright. We went to get a bite to eat afterwards at Social House (SoHo) and ordered the pizzas.

Keri Hilson Flirts With Lil Wayne On Tour

ooooh, maybe something going on between these two talented people. Keri can make it big one day i think, she's been kicking around the music scene writing for many people for a while, kinda like Ne-Yo before he broke out as well. Check out the last few minutes of the video hehehe

Black Friday

"I always wanted a happy ending... Now I've learned, the
hard way, that some poems don't rhyme, and some stories
don't have a clear beginning, middle and end. Life is about
not knowing, having to change, taking the moment and
making the best of it without knowing what's going to
happen next" - Gilda Radner

Jamila dan Sang Presiden

Doing my bid to support the local Indonesian movie industry, I'll highlight some new releases or reviews once something exciting comes along. Apparently a new movie called Jamila dan Sang Presiden is coming out soon, the only synopsis of the movie i can find stated that its about the illegal trafficking of women in Indonesia and the commercial sex industry.

Again, apparently it was based on a play authored by women's rights activist Ratna Sarumpaet, who also wrote and directed the big screen adaptation.

Wow, thats a serious subject and not one thats usually seen in Indonesian cinema, I hope the movie turns out good and is well received by the public. I remember studying the power of the media in college and how powerfull it can be as a tool to influence public perception, hopefully something like this can create further discussions about the dark side of society and how we should deal with it.

I remember the sensation about the practice of polygamy when Berbagi Suami came out, and people started talking about the positives and the negatives. Sometimes i think our society would rather not talk about these things cause it can be painfull and open a really big can of worms, but how else are we suppose to meet progress if not head on?

The movie stars Christine Hakim, Ria Irawan, Surya Saputra, Fauzi Baadillah, Atiqah Hasiholan and many more.

An Adventure Waiting To Be Reborn

I was watching tv this morning and I saw so may adverts for 3D movies like the upcoming Jonas Brothers concert movie, and I remember Bolt and Journey To The Center Of The Earth had limited runs in 3D form as well in the past.

I think 3D is a great idea, it can put that excitement back into watching movies on the big screen and will have little effect by piracy, which is killing the movie business little by little. Its development is only held back by a lack of 3D capable screens (i think there's only two in the whole of Indonesia so far), which will require extra investment by exhibitors like 21 and Blitz.

My only request is that they redo some of the great older movies so we can watch it in 3D form, in particular the Jurassic Park movies! they're tailor made for this format. Imagine the T-Rex attack from the first movies, or the Raptor sequence in the 2nd one, or the Pteranodon vs parachute scene in the 3rd one!

I'll be first in line!

New Maliq Album

Maliq N'Dessentials is coming out with a new album soon called "Mata Hati Telinga" (Eyes Hearts Ears), could be worth picking up when it comes out.

I've been listening to them since the first started as a jam session band at the Four Seasons lounge, wow that was a long time ago, now they've gone through many changes with different members and sound. They're good guys though, so I'm rooting for them to recapture the magic that they had when the first album came out, some of that thunder is recently stolen by bands like RAN but nobody is hot forever right?

Thanks to Indonesiaselebriti.com for the news, good stuff keep going guys!

Jalan Bukit Bintang

Our host took us to dinner one night at a Japanese restaurant in jalan Bukit Bintang (Starhill Road), and i was struck by the lights and atmosphere of the street which is flanked by the Starhill Gallery on one side and the Pavillion complex on the other. It reminded me of Rodeo Drive and Orchard Road actually, though the actual road itself is not very long but you get the same vibe.

The interior design of the Pavilion complex is quite interesting.

Petronas Tower At Night

100 Plus

I tasted Malaysia's version on Pocari Sweat, the energy drink, and to me it tasted kinda weird. Pocari is also bitter but has a sweeter aftertaste than 100 Plus, but then again, the first time i had Pocari I didn't like it either, so maybe it takes a while for me to get used to it.

Asam-Asam

We walked around KL and bought some traditional sweets/snacks from street vendors, they had a lot of nick nacks and some weird stuff man.

Traders Hotel

Went to Malaysia last weekend and stayed at the Traders Hotel in Kuala Lumpur, which is apparently managed or owned by the Shangri-La Group. When you check in at the 5th floor you're instantly met by very nice modern design touches, I guess they're targeting a younger crowd of people and it show.

The room was quite as well and i especially loved the bathroom and furniture.

You can also see the Petronas tower through our window overlooking the park underneath, right next to the KLCC.

Someone told me the picture below looks like a computer generated image hahaha it does look a little bit like that doesn't it, like something out of a brochure.

Jimmy Fallon Takes Over From Conan

Jimmy Fallon (Saturday Night Live, Taxi) officially takes over the Late Night Show spot from Conan O'Brien, I havent actually seen the show but some reviews have come up saying that he's still struggling on becoming comfortable and delivery. He'll get better at it, Conan wasn't so good either for like the first...2 years! hahaha

Bumi Joglo

Tried a place called Bumi Joglo in Bandung a couple of weeks ago, which had a specialty of nasi liwet baked in claypot....i know...i've never heard of something like that either hahaha. We tried the chicked and salted fish option, as well as some chicked and vegetables.

Javanese Opera

It's nice to see some people in Jakarta doing something other than parties and dinners for a change hehehe

Last week a number of prominent people in Jakarta held a performance of Javanese opera (Wayang Orang), here's the official excerpt:

"On March 2-3 an exceptional performance takes place at the Jakarta Playhouse. The performing troupe will be a mix of professionals from the Bharata group based in Jakarta and semi- or nonprofessionals, the latter consisting of socialites who are rediscovering the beauty of their culture and wishing to help preserve Javanese culture such as wayang orang."
It was decent actually, obviously they're not professionals and most of them did not speak fluent Javanese, so there was many fluffed lines but they managed to cover it up humorously.

My uncle, Ted, was actually one of the extras hehehe

Crazy Woman At Hong Kong Airport

This woman is crazy! she just missed her plane and is throwing one crazy fit in the middle of Hong Kong airport. Apparently she got a free upgrade and apology from Cathay Pacific! maybe i should roll around on the floor when i miss my flights...

Waroeng Poedjoek

I've never tried Waroeng Poedjoek (english: Corner Shop) before, and i was pleasantly surprised when i visited a friend's franchise at the Citywalk building in Casablanca street. Highly recommended, good clean simple food and price wasn't too bad either. The Nasi Liwet was my favorite!

Being Bold

Been fiddling with my new Bold for the last 4 months now and loving every minute of it, its fast-powerfull-and the best Blackberry phone in the market right now (though i heard the new Javelin...errr, i meant Curve, has a better camera). I don't see myself switching to another BB or phone for a good long while, i think i'm good hehehe

Coloured Balls???

Compatible with almost any Blackberry model, these coloured trackballs are only $7.99! interesting little fellas. I like my white trackball as it is, but i know of some people who have been experiencing problems with theirs, so replacing it with these could be nice solution (dibs on the blue one).

Noodley Googly

Felt like having some noodles a couple of days ago, so we went to a Japanese joint called Tai Chan in Pondok Indah Mall 2. It was ok, could do with a bit more flavours though. We orderd the sliced beef and seafood.

Most Wanted

Some cool shoes from Nike courtesy of Hypebeast. These Nike Footscape are by far, my pick of best looking sport shoes ever, and i mean ever! the first time i saw these was in London and i've been in love ever since.

Always wanted to get a pair but never could find them, they're quite rare and is only released in limited numbers. These black and grey two tone are the shiznit!

I have no idea what these ones are called but they look cool too.

Crocalicious!

For those that love switching up the appearance of their Blackberry phones (like me), the possibility is endless as there are many third party products out there for you to pick and choose from. These Casemate "Backpacks" for the Bold is pretty cool, it's pretty limited on what you can do in terms of customization as it is, but switching up the back looks quite nice.
The brown croc one is my favorite though, looks very cool!

2009 BMW Alpina B7 Bi-Turbo

"The B7 Bi-Turbo is essentially the M7 BMW forgot to build, packing a twin-turbocharged, 4.4-liter V8 putting out 507 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque. Alpina claims the B7 can run to 60 in 4.7 seconds and on to an electronically-limited 173 mph" - Autoblog

Raw & Delirious

I will always remember Eddie Murphy from his stand up videos, that is when he is at his best - raw and uncut! for every Mulan or Daddy Day Care movies...i know he's only doing them for the money, he does not have to prove his abilities like younger hungry actors.

We know he can act well, so we'll just wait until such time that he found a project that stretches him (like Dreamgirls) and shows his genuine talent.

Hopefully its soon, Eddie recently signed up to do a biopic of his idol Richard Pryor, unbelievable news to me. Everyone remembers his Pryor impression in Delirious (see below), i've been quoting that routine for ages!

"what does that chunk want??"

But my favorite, favorite skits are in the Raw video, he's at his peak when he pokes fun at popular entertainers like Michael Jackson-

and Stevie Wonder.

Creative genius.
