*#@<*^$%?!

A hilarious clip of Justin Timberlake messing around with Pharrell Williams and Shae in the studio, it starts from 1:30 onwards hehehe

What Is A Life Really Worth?

I finally saw the movie Jamila dan Sang Presiden a couple of days ago, a deeply tragic story of a prostitute involved in the murder of a minister and became a national sensation in the process.

As far as i know it's not based on any real person, but we all know the story too well.

Taken at an early age to be trained as a commercial sex worker, Jamila managed to run away only to be abused at the hands of the family that she was supposed be safe with. Separated from her only link to the life she doesn't remember anymore, her sister Fatima, she ended up in the big city working as a high class prostitute for government officials and businessmen.

I'm not gonna get into story details cause you should see the movie and discover it for yourself, but its clear that a lot of thought and research went into it by first time writer-director Ratna Sarumpaet. Adapted from her own stage play I think also with the same name, you can definitely see its influence on the production with it's long and philosophical dialogues.

The film also has a fractured narrative structure layered with lots of flashbacks, which means you really have to pay attention otherwise you might miss revealing information about how Jamila the person came to be.

There's many themes explored in the movie, some more successful than others, but I liked the one about children and poverty. There's an old saying that children are like blank sheets of paper, and thus children do/say exactly what we and society bring them up to be, some of that is explored in the movie.

At the end of the day, I commend the filmmakers for being gutsy enough to tackle a difficult subject with very little commercial appeal in today's environment. I heard they had a hard time getting funding to make the movie,  I can see why hehehe, but we should support movies that's at least trying to say something cause we all know that doesn't happen very often.

According to the movie around 40,000-90,000 children are sexually abused every year in Indonesia, a frightening statistic when you think that we're supposed to be a muslim country.

Peacock Smeacock

Was trying to find an open restaurant one late night and decided upon the legendary Peacock at the Sultan hotel, used to be a popular hang out for many Jakarta people during its heyday. Boy was I severely dissapointed, the food was tasteless and the people were too tired and cranky to serve you, should've gone to McDonalds instead hehehe.

Look At The Torque On That Thing

Don't know if this is a made up viral campaign by Chevrolet or not, but it looks real and funny enough! a woman in China was arguing with a tow truck driver and decided to just...drive away!

Some Wise Words

Late Night Coffee

I'm pretty sure my body doesnt pump blood around my arteries anymore, i'm pretty sure that substance is coffee, sweet-bitter-delicious grounded beanssssssss. My addiction is so bad that i can pretty much have a cup at night and still go to sleep afterwards, I aint proud of that btw, so I think i should cut back a little and see if it does the body good hehehe.

Bread N Breakfast

Had brunch with some friends a while ago at an all day breakfast joint in Kemang called...Bread N Breakfast...yeah i know, imaginative name hehehe. I love breakfast food more than any other meal during the day, so naturally i love the place and it has good selection too.

Tried the steak and eggs this time and...it was allright, but the beef was kinda hard and you don't really wanna chew too much in the morning hehehe too lazy for that. But highly reccomended place anyway.

Streetlights Fanmade Video

My favourite song of Kanye West's last album, 808s & Heartbreak, haunting and beautiful at the same time especially if you examine the lyrics carefully. I've been listening to it non-stop just putting it on a loop, its a shame he never made an official video for it, but this unofficial one is just as good and the imagery it presents is beautiful.

You can feel the sadness and sorrow on that album so bad, Kanye must have been hurting real bad inside to dedicate a whole album to it, but it makes good music to me as a listener so i can't complain!

To go that far out from your last album...that's a risky move, most artists would balk at doing that cause they might alienate their fans, you really have to give props to Kanye for baring his heart and taking that leap.

Cholesterol Alert

Its the most disgusting/best thing ever depending on which side of the fence you're on i guess hahaha, but I cant believe you can get cheese dip with your popcorn at cinemas nowadays. That's just...so wrong and yet so right on so many levels hahaha (btw, the movie sucked, so this was the consolation prize).

Peterpan vs. D'Masiv

This is the coolest mash up between Indonesian musicians that i've ever seen (sit down you 3 Diva supporters!), I don't know where it is but it doesn't look like Indonesia, maybe Malysia or something.

How the hell did they sync the two songs together?? the interplay between the two singers is cool.

Twenty First Night - "Tergila"

I'm digging these guys at the moment, they're pretty underrated and make decent music for my taste.  There's a full blown interview with them at Indonesiaselebriti.com as well, so check 'em out.
