Transformers 2 Review (Spoilers)

Clearly, Michael Bay is not Steven Spielberg (or James Cameron or Sam Raimi or Peter Jackson-the list goes on and on and on).

The list of directors I just mentioned has the ability to blend story with spectacle, having character we actually care about facing extraordinary circumstances numerous times, but we didn't mind. Genetically engineered dinosaurs? check, robots from the future? check, elves vs. orcs vs. goblins vs. whatever? check. It's almost like conducting a symphony, the parts have to be balanced in order not to overwhelm each other.

I know he's not making Shakespeare here, but at least the first one or Bad Boys 2 had some semblance of a story in it...somewhere...this one is just confusing. You need a guide to understand what the hell is going on, I've seen it twice now and it still didn't make any sense!

I read somewhere that there's actually 45 robot characters in this one, but besides the major characters like Optimus and Bumblebee, I couldn't tell them apart. Not even Megatron, the major bad guy, he had minions that looked like him and they're jumping all over the place and I can't tell who lives and who died.
This might be because the robots are too detailed, it looks cool when they stand still but once they start moving it becomes hard to keep track. The colour also play a huge part in recognition, Optimus and Bumblebee stand out but the others are just the same grey colour (not helpfull).

To me this time around, the humans seem more interesting than the robots. Shia was funny, his roommate Leo and Agent Simmons was funny, and Megan Fox is...reliably hot. They break up the robot on robot mayhem nicely, in between the non stop running from large explosions that is hahaha.
Best Line #1:
College Guy 1 - "Is that your car? where you going freshman?!"
Sam - "I'm going to get you a tighter shirt"
College Guy 2 - "There is no tighter shirt, we looked" (fist bump)
There's some really stupid ideas explored too like the human decepticon (Isabel Lucas), how the hell do robots replicate human skin??? definitely an idea best left to the Terminator franchise.

The Autobot twins too, I've seen so much negative response against them on the net that I can't believe someone somewhere was stupid enough to even think that they were a good idea (I think it's Michael Bay's fault, even the writers of the movie are dodging that bullet and blaming him). You have robots farting, talking shit, humping legs (seriously), the list just goes on and on.
Best Line #2:
Agent Simmons - "I am standing directly beneath the enemy's...scrotum"
You really, really need to switch off your brain with this one, just have to enjoy it at face value. The hype is amazing though, look at the line of people waiting to see it:

B&B

I love breakfast, my favorite food of the day, all-day breakfast places is like heaven to me hehehe. Went to Bread&Breakfast last weekend cause there was no food at home, and tried some interesting choices on the menu. Someone ordered the chicken steak (2nd pic), that looked heavy for a brunch, but looks good.

We ordered something healthy too! The pancakes is good too.

Kiehl's

Shout out to Orange and her crew at the Kiehl's launch, awesome guys, hopefully it'll be super succesfull! go check out their store at Plaza Senayan people!

Tei Again

Was walking around Pondok Indah Mall one lazy Sunday and did a bit of shopping, so we stopped by Sushi Tei as usual and got some food. The calamari thing was allright, and someone ordered some salmon spicy thing which was ok.

Snow In Melbourne??

Weird huh, must be global warming.

Well Hello There

Must be baby season hehehe

Marche

Tried the new Marche concept restaurant at Plaza Senayan a couple of days ago, and came out feeling...meh. There's huge buzz about it at the moment, though I tend to think that it's because people tend to flock to new places, not because it's necessarily good hehehe.

The winning element at Marche is really just the choices, there's so many of it and its freshly made in front of you, but it doesnt for the taste (or lack thereof). Tried the cheese quesadilla and bbq wings and was dissapointed both times.

Chrome Macbook

"Here is a recent example of a beautiful polished black nickel/chrome Macbook Pro 15" Unibody. This top of the line 2.93ghz, 4gb, 256GB SDD model was customized complete with matching keyboard and trackpad. Even the glass trackpad was paint matched (on the underside) to retain the smooth sliding surface these laptops are known for."

Nice work, love the chrome colour, makes it mysterious. Check out Computer Choppers for more info.

The Last Airbender Trailer

Big fan of the series, the mixture of eastern and wester influence is amazingly spot on, creating a story that can be enjoyed not only by children but adults alike. The story is epic and absolutely transferable to the big screen at the hand of the right script and director, but is that person M. Night Shyamalan???

I didn't like his last three films very much (The Happening, The Lady In The Water and The Village), and this is sooooo different to anything that i've seen him do so far, which are intimate and claustrophobic movies.

So will he ruin Aang's story for me? I guess we have to wait until next year when it comes out to find out. Meanwhile, check out the trailer below, the cast looks good so far. Dev Patel was amazing in Slumdog Millionaire.

Goldammer Nortorious

"It’s a modern take on a Norton Manx cafe racer, with a featherbed-styled frame housing one half of a Harley V-twin. That single cylinder is a substantial 965cc though, and force-fed by a Rotex supercharger running 20 pounds of boost." - Bikeexif.com

Stick To Acting My Son

Love Shia LaBeouf, don't care what anybody says, I think he's talented and pretty much underrated. On that note, I also love Transformers, played with it as a kid and will pretty much watch the new movie again and again and again. But Shia's comedic timing is just not appreciated much, and I think it's one of his main strengths as an actor, take a look at him singing the cheesy theme song of the cartoon.

Minimalist Washbasins

Love these minimalist bathroom sinks, I can imagine it in mine allready hehehe check out DigsDigs for more.

UPDATED - Majestic

An update on that Gundam statue built in Japan, looks majestic with the lights on set against a dark sky ain't it? check out Toysrevil for more info.

UPDATE - apparently it moves too, check out the video below. Some people are saying that new movements will be shown every week or day or something. Interesting, cause I thought it was going to be a stationary statue.

More Reason Why I Have To Visit Japan

For some reason someone decided to build a full lifesize replice of a Gundam in Tokyo, Japan. Look at the size of that thing! gotta love a country that doesn't take itself too seriously. Thats a serious endeavour, see the links here and here which also has the location if you're in the area and want to visit. Send me some pics while you're at it!

The Dark Knight Vs Pixies

Terminal 3

Took a friend to the Soekarno-Hatta airport recently and got a chance to visit the new Terminal 3, took some pictures to compare with Terminal 1 (domestic) & 2 (international). I was pleasantly surprised to be honest, Terminal 3 was supposed to lighten the domestic load of Terminal 1, and to be honest...that place is a s**t hole.

The design reminds me of Gatwick actually, with the sloping arched roof and white everywhere. It even has air conditioning hehehe somewhat of a luxury in Indonesian airports I tell ya.

Another Cali Deli

They just opened another Cali Deli in the Kemang area, specifically near Ranchmarket, and decided to check it out cause I think the place is pretty underrated. I don't know how I got my love of sandwhiches, but i just do hehehe, its simple...comfort food I guess. It's always the first thing I look for when opening a menu.

Supra Skytops

Oh man, these Supra Skytops are seriously cool, I wish they're available in Indonesia. I gotta get all three hahaha I can't even choose which is best.

Check out Hypebeast for more!

10 Chick Flick cliches you will NOT see in He's Just Not That Into You

I just saw a hilarious flick last night on dvd called "He's Just Not That Into You", and I highly recommend people pick it up and give it a shot. There is a surprisingly large number of stars playing small roles in the movie, Jennifer Aniston-Ben Affleck-Drew Barrymore-etc, but my favorite is probably Bradley Cooper and Justin Long.

Bradley's journey from married man to intense affair with a yoga instructor/wannabe singer (played by Scarlett Johansson, so hot, you understand why he was tempted hehehe), was very interesting and the resolution of their marriage was unexpected for me, as I was expecting the cliched movie ending I guess.

Justin Long was just funny and cool in this, I was expecting the crazy and nutty comedic Justin Long, so to see him play the straight man was again unexpected.

Take a look at this promo material for the movie, you'll be laughing your guts out.

Ugliest Dog Ever

Meat, Glorious Meat!

Hooked up the couzins and some friends to play some poker, but I came really for the food hehehe. Been having a lot of meat lately for some reason...

Had some Brasas take out (my favorite steak joint, cough cough), there was some ribs-rib eye-chicken and salmon I think. Of course I gotta go with the ribs, and for some reason there was eggs (maybe to go with the fried rice, but I didn't bother). Ribs at 12 o'clock??? can't be good for me hehehe

Ranadi House Garage Sale

Went to the Ranadi House garage sale to support some friends that either opened booths or were a part of the organizing team, as usual with this place, the parking and access is packed and good thing we had help with finding a parking space.

I didn't really browse the clothes on offer, I pretty much came to hang out and meet my friends, but I was pleasantly surprised cause it was actually quite organized (congrats Tiza and Laras). There was food and drinks, so the sitting around was bearable hehehe

There was a ton of people shopping, you could probably find some bargains, but I didn't even bother. The heat and crowd was making it too claustrophobic for me.

En Dining

Met up with some people for dinner and drinks, first stop, a Japanese place called En Dining at Senayan City (in the Lagoon section). Everyone else was ordering gyu tan, but for some reason I was reccomended the Hamburg steak, so I tried it for curiosity sake. It was ok, but like eating a giant hamburger patty hahaha

Bubble Tea At Weddings??? Interesting

Neon Genesis Evangelion 1.0

Saw the new Neon Genesis Evangelion 1.0 movie at a late late late night screening at Blitz Grand Indonesia on the weekend, big fan of the series and was looking forward to see it actually.

The film is more like a companion to the series, as it goes back over the same events but sometimes from different perspectives and fleshes it out even more. I was a little bit dissapointed cause not much new material was actually included, but there's still 3 more instalments to go, maybe they will have some new stuff in it.

Green Tea Frap

Had some time to kill around the Black Canyon Pejaten area so I popped in for a minute, ordered the green tea frappucino with crushed ice. It was ok, but had a slight bitter after taste I didn't like so much.

New Moon Trailer

MTV has the new Twilight movie trailer, New Moon, from their recent movie award preview. I tried reading the book (the first one), and I tried watching the movie, but I still don't get it. The story is...ok at best, the effects are tv grade at its best, but there's a gajilion Twilight fans out there that would disagree with me wholeheartedly.

New Moon looks ok so far cause it skips over the origin stories and get right to it, and I gotta admit the potential conflict between Edward and Jacob could be interesting, the classic vampire vs. werewolf fight.
